Taking Care of Your Clothes With Downy, Bounce and Janie Bryant from Mad Men

Downey Wrinkle Releaser

I’m horrible when it comes to taking care of my clothes. I dump them all in together, wash them cold and HATE ironing. SO I was very excited when I was offered “The FabricCare Guide” by costume designer, Janie Bryant, who is best known for her work on Mad Men.

A page from the Fabric Guide by Janie Bryant

The guide is a beautifully illustrated book with illustrations and pictures of garments from the show. There’s even tiny fabric swatches! If you want first class advice on how to take care of your own clothes like a pro (or just want a really fun Mad Men tie in) check out the downloadable guide here: www.downywrinklereleaser.com/janiebryant.  There’s also a coupon there so you can try Downy’s Wrinkle Releaser for yourself.

“One thing I’ve always been passionate about is how important presentation is to having great style,” said Bryant. “Looking pressed and polished is often just as important as what you’re wearing and the best way to pull off that look is to know how to take great care of your clothing.”

The advice is tied in with Downy’s new Wrinkle Releaser. For folks like me who hate ironing it’s a welcome relief. You simply spray on, tug and smooth out the serious wrinkles and hang it up. Obviously it’s not a last minute product (unless you’re willing to go out with a damp shirt or pants), but it is a nice alternative to ironing. I used it on a skirt that I had forgotten to hang up immediately out of the dryer and it reduced the visible wrinkles pretty quickly (and I didn’t burn anything down). And, the plus side is it smells great!

I also received a bottle of Bounce’s new ironing spray. It acts like starch, but without the annoying smell or flakes you sometimes get from starching your clothes and ironing. For the times that I do have to iron I’m happy to have this around.

Both are available at big box retailers like Target and Walmart or check your local grocery store.

I received  free samples of Bounce Ironing Spray and Downey Wrinkle Release along with a hard copy of “The FabricCare Guide” for free, but all opinions are my own and I do my best to give my honest, amazingly insightful review of any free products I receive.

Wear Your Music Keeps the Music Close at Hand

Wear Your Music Braclets

It’s no secret that I love music. I love live music, recordings and everything in between. It’s not often that I can combine my love of music with fashion, upcycling/recycling AND philanthropy, but with Wear Your Music I totally can.

In a very smart idea, Wear Your Music takes used guitar and bass strings, donated by artists (such as Eric Clapton, Jack Johnson and Bonnie Raitt) and makes them into amazing bracelets. 100% of profits go to a charity selected by the artist. Last year the website donated over $60k!

The guitar bracelets sell for a bit of a range, Ben Harper’s is $150 and Brian May of Queen is $200. Look through the site for more details.

The website also features other items (like 45s made into coasters or custom made record bowls). So be sure to check it out, be fashionable and help out a great cause!

Going Back to School in Fashionable Geek-style

If you hadn’t already guessed it the folks here at QuadrupleZ are kind of.. well, geeky. We love TV, movies, comics and everything in between. So it was kind of refreshing to see more and more of our favorite things being accepted by the mainstream of culture. Geek is, in fact, the new chic.

So it was no small surprise when Warner Brothers asked us to talk about the new Supergirl by Nastia clothing collection. The only disappointing fact is this clothing wasn’t around when I was a kid going back to school.

One of the fun parts (at least for me) of heading back to school was getting some new supplies and, of course, some new clothes. So what self-respecting Geek parent isn’t going to check out Supergirl by Nastia at JCPenney for their 4 to 12-year-old girls?

I especially loved these pants! Fashionable super hero wear… where were you when I was starting third grade?

There was also this adorable shirt with a knit shrug:

And, we can’t leave out this awesome hoodie:

Check it out for yourself at your local JCPenney or online at http://bit.ly/b9kJy3.

Nastia Liukin is a Supergirl bringing Super-Fashions to JCPenney

I love strong female characters. It’s no surprise to anyone who knows me. Strong female super heroes? The best.

Girls need great role models. Women who are celebrate for their brains, not just their body. So many women struggle with self-respect and self-image. Finding modern day heroes can be hard. One of those heroes is Nastia Liukin, gold medal winning gymnast. Nastia Liukin is currently unveiling her new clothing line at JCPenny. Partnered with Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP), on behalf of DC Comics, and JCPenney, Supergirl by Nastia offers fashionable clothes for 4 to 12-year-old girls (just in time for back-to-school). The line is available online at jcpenny.com or at your local store.

For those in California, you can meet Nastia at the JCPenney at the Glendale Galleria. Nastia will make a special appearance at this year’s Supergirl Jam set to take place on August 22 in Venice Beach, CA. Or on August 28th in Orlando, Florida at the Florida Mall.

The line will retail from $20 – $38, making it affordable and exciting for girls to style themselves like a Supergirl. The collection will include active fleece, dresses and tunics, knit pants, signature Supergirl tees, dancewear, fashion leggings, shrug tops and more.

Need a Gift for the Barney Stinson in Your Life? Get them a Sockscription!

barney_stinson3

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from watching TV — clothes make you a better man. If you don’t believe us, ask Barney Stinson, one of the lead characters of How I Met Your Mother. Barney’s catch phrase, “Suit Up!” is not only a funny saying, but a truth that Barney carries through out his life.

Why are we talking about Barney Stinson. I mean, other than he’s awesome, of course. Because we have the perfect gift for the Barney Stinson in your life (or the man who needs to learn from his fine example) – a sockscription. The good folks over at Blacksocks.com want to help the men in your life live in style this year, with a sockscription.

For an annual subscription of $89 (includes shipping), “sockscribers” receive three pairs of socks every four months for a total of nine pairs annually. The socks are manufactured in Northern Italy, using the highest quality yarns with long fibers that pill less and are more durable. Sockscribers have the option of calf socks, knee socks, and cashmere silk socks.

These socks are extreme quality in the making, BlackSocks.com sent me a pair to test out on my father, and they are as luxurious and good-looking as advertised. They were a lot thicker than I anticipated, a lot better than most dress socks you buy in the store. This is the perfect gift for the hard-to-please man on your gift list this year. Maybe your CEO, or father, your lawyer, your professor, or even yourself! After all, you worked hard this year at being awesome — shouldn’t your feet be rewarded for all that hard work?

Clothes may not make the man, but they sure make the man look good. So head over to Blacksocks.com and check out their service for yourself. Blacksocks also carries men’s underwear and fine T-shirts, available via subscription.

Not sure if you are ready to buy a sockscription? You can purchase trial pairs before committing. Barney would approve.

Tea Stain Clothing Launches “The Music Fashion Project”: Style, Music and Charity!

image001Shop for a good cause! Tea Stain Clothing has just launched The Music Fashion Project. This philanthropic initiative pairs some of the rock scene’s biggest names with their favorite style of Tea Stain Clothing to raise money for music-related charities. Participating bands include well known bands like Papa Roach and The Donnas. The project also features some bands ‘on the verge’ like Framing Hanley, currently holding the #1 video spot on Fuse TV, and Lovehammers featuring Marty Casey from NBC’s Rock Star INXS. Some benefiting charities include VH1 Save The Music, Little Kids Rock and Rock ‘N Renew. To contribute to the project, fans simply purchase their favorite band’s selected charity style. Tea Stain Clothing takes care of the rest by donating a portion of the proceeds directly to that band’s specified charity.

The project is web based and every band’s feature is completely sharable. “This is the next generation of social media and web based marketing. We wanted to make a difference and make it easy to spread the word.” founder Devin Hajek says. “Even if someone isn’t able to spend money on a shirt, they can still support their favorite band/charity by simply clicking ‘share’. From there they have the option to email their friends or post it on their myspace, facebook and a host of other social networking outlets.”
